There are a number of ways you can work with an editor:
Manuscript assessment
A manuscript assessment (also known as a structural edit) is a written report that looks at story arc, character development, voice and pace. If you’ve written a few drafts and are not sure what to do next, this is the step for you.
Manuscript development
If you feel you need help to address issues raised in your manuscript assessment, some editors offer manuscript development. This usually takes the form of one-on-one writing workshops to work through your new draft, a few chapters at a time. It’s like having your own personal writing tutor.
Copy editing
This is the final polish.
