Hello, I’m Lu Sexton. I’ve been working with writers like you since 2014 and I love it. My mission is to help you bring out the best in your writing and get you one step closer to being published.

I developed my coaching method through years of working as an editor with new writers. I started offering manuscript appraisals in a workshop setting rather than as a written report, which the writers really loved, and so did I. So it grew from there.

If you’re ready for some friendly, professional support with your novel, or you’re just curious about coaching and whether it’s the right thing for you, the first step is for us to have a chat. This is so I can learn a bit about you, your book, and your publishing hopes and dreams, and you can get to know me a bit too.

From there, if you feel like I’m the right coach for you, we’ll make a plan to start working together. I usually recommend starting with a dip your toe appraisal workshop.

Why not schedule a phone call right now?

Or if you are feeling shy, you can start by dropping me a line to tell me about you and your novel and we can book in the call from there.

I found Lu to be a very careful reader of my draft novel. She had read the novel with great attention to detail. She was highly constructive with lots of great ideas on how to improve my draft. She was sensitive and caring at the same time as she was honest about things that didn’t work well. She also provided back to me the entire manuscript with comments throughout which I am sure will be really helpful. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her.

Lu provided some fantastic ideas and insights into my book draft. The suggested structural change made perfect sense. Under Lu's friendly and knowledgeable guidance I hope to take my draft from a good read to a great read in a memoir that you just cant put down!
I couldn't recommend Lu highly enough. Her honest and detailed appraisal of my written work was so informative, constructive and honest. She provided clarity in regards to the next steps I need to take, whilst encouraging me to do what I needed to for my own writing journey. I'll definitely be coming back to her for more support with the next stages of my book.

Lu has been a pleasure to work with. Her manuscript assessment, one-on-one writing workshops and copy edits have been invaluable in the development of my first novel. Lu has a lot of knowledge and attention to detail which, along with her enthusiasm, really helped me take my manuscript to the next level.

I’d strongly recommend Lu to any writers – she can really help you develop a solid finished product.

The secret power of shifting tense

Have you ever noticed a passage in a novel that has switched from past tense to present? Probably not, but you may have read one, nonetheless. Shifting tense is a subtle tool that can affect how the reader feels without them even noticing. For example, an action scene in present
